How Nick Cannon Saved My Life – Camp Nowhere

Screen Shot 2020-02-10 at 12.40.28 PMIf you ever had the privilege to meet the artist “Camp Nowhere” native of Longview, Dallas; I promise you will never forget the energy that permeates throughout his entire body. That energy is reflected in his music. It’s still important to reflect on the lyrics of the non mumble rap true artists as an artist music is typically the window to their soul.

Camp shared a very special story with us of how he traveled to Los Angeles with a former friend that decided to leave him stranded at a gas station parking lot (In Inglewood) and return to Dallas without him. As Camp sat in the gas station parking lot puzzled, depressed and contemplating his next move he reached out to someone he met from Power 106 and told them about his situation. It was through his friend he learned about “New Music Monday.” Of course Camp knew if presented this opportunity the world could get exposed to his music and he knew everyone who heard any of his music would absolutely love it.

Once Camp found out that Nick Cannon frequented the station for his new show he decided to “camp out” (no punt intended) by his Sprinter Van in the parking lot hoping to get the opportunity to holla at Nick personally and present to him his music. After several days with no sign of Nick returning to his vehicle on a day when Camp was really is a dispair mindset he finally runs into Nick. Joyfully greeting Cannon and introducing himself he asked Nick Cannon if he would check out his music. Cannon agreed and asked for Camp Nowhere for his Instagram and followed him.

Screen Shot 2020-02-10 at 12.37.42 PMElated at the chance to finally meet Mr Nick Cannon in person Camp Nowhere’s days were starting to get just a tad bit brighter. After a couple of weeks Nick Cannon DM’d Camp Nowhere about the opportunity to be in a contest on New Music Monday and gave him to information to come to the station and tell his story.  What an amazing day this was for Camp Nowhere.

“Being on the show with Nick Cannon and now my song ‘Bloody Mary’ would go up against Summer Walker’s new single “Come Thru” featuring Usher. The votes were pouring in for my song and then I actually won! Yes! – Camp Nowhere

“I’m so happy right now because I caught another W. I’m so glad you are here. The song is super creative. I was super impressed when I met you and super impressed you are here. It shows people still like artists that are unique and not afraid to be themselves.” – Nick Cannon.

“When Nick spoke those words from that day going forward I really started to believe more about what I have to offer. It honestly changed the trajectory of my path in life and jumpstarted my engine to push my music. I honestly sat in that parking lot contemplating some really dark things” – Camp Nowhere

Producers Channel TV: Which 3 artists have inspired your musical career?

Camp: 1. J Cole- His passion! His backstory! He’s inclined in expressing himself as a human and not a rapper. 2. Micheal Jackson- LITERALLY, who can do what he did better!? 3. Jay Z- It took him 26 years to find his path!!! Once he embraced that opportunity he made lucrative decisions! Best hustler to make it from my perspective!

Producers Channel TV: How does music play a constant part in your daily life?

Camp :  Music plays a constant part in my daily life because for every circumstance, emotion, or thought, or even action..A SONG ALWAYS POPS IN MY HEAD!!! It’s like there’s a melody for every minute of life you know!!!?

Producers Channel TV: Define friendship

Camp: Friendship is loyalty, understanding, and commitment to the individuals worthy of that!

Producers Channel TV: What are your thoughts on the current state of R & B?

Camp:  I know R&B can be better! The state of music in general at this point is kind of watered down! Taking a few goats into consideration, it’s not all the way tainted! But sometimes rappers/singers DO NOT focus on MEANING IN MELODY. I know there’s a different way to do it all!
