Went to see The Photograph today after reading a handful of great reviews even though they had me after I had seen the trailer. I love a great love story & Valentine’s Day (even after having no specific Valentine for the past 12 years). Issa Rae & LaKeith did an amazing acting job of really making the audience feel like they are both in love in real life.
The writer/director Stella Meghie of this film Stella did an amazing job of telling a story line without adding too much drama or conflict to detract from the “love line” of the story. A great job of flip flopping back and forth through two different time eras and telling two love stories of two different generations of women at once. There were a lot of moments in the movie that made the audience look at their own personal love life (looking at their relationship with their own mom), their ability to take a chance on love or wonder why they aren’t willing to take chances on love. On February 11, 2020 over a year after claiming he was attacked on the cold streets of Chicago, Jussie Smollett was indicted by a special prosecutor in the case that the former Empire star probably thought was behind him. Jussie Smollett was back in court in the city of Chicago. Again, Jussie now faces time behind bars again as a possibility since on Feb 11th Smollett was indicited on six counts of disorderly conduct by a Cook County grand jury over falsely reporting the assault. The Clark Sisters are taking their act to the big screen and the movie will be super amazing! Just to give you a little taste of what the film will be about :
The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel will air Easter on Saturday, April 11th at 8pm eastern and pacific, only on Lifetime.
From executive producers and Grammy Award winners Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige and Missy Elliott, comes the authorized musical tale of the incomparable gospel singers, The Clark Sisters. The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel recounts the story of the highest selling female gospel group in history and of their trailblazing mother, Mattie Moss Clark (Aunjanue Ellis). Credited with bringing Gospel music to the mainstream, the five Clark sisters (Christina Bell as “Twinkie,” Kierra Sheard as “Karen,” Sheléa Frazier as “Dorinda,” Raven Goodwin as “Denise,” Angela Birchett as “Jacky”) overcame humble beginnings in Detroit, enduring abuse, loss, rejection, betrayal, and sibling rivalries to achieve international fame as icons of the Gospel music industry.
The public, black twitter and actors were not happy when the 2020 Oscar Nominee list was revealed. It’s seems the #OscarsSoWhite remains #SoWhite as there was still a total lack of diversity not only in the actor/actress categories but also in the Director, Music and Screenplay nominations.
The consensus was the sure way for an African American to be considered for an Oscar nodd would be to star in a film about slavery and storylines that depict the oppression of Black people. Ironically Cynthia Erivo is not only getting flack for his nomination but she also received alot of flack from the African American Community because of being Brittish and being chosen for the role of Black America’s honored and beloved Harriett Tubman.
Personally, the Producer’s Channel is so proud of Cynthia Erivo for the outstanding acting she displayed in the film Harriet and if anyone of these people criticizing even saw the film they would have to agree that she definitely earned her Oscar nomination and we will be rooting for her all the way to the finish line for the win!
Dr. Heavenly Kimes (Bravo Network – Married to Medicine Reality TV Star) hosts a private screening of Black & Blue along with her Dentist Dr colleagues from Los Angeles. The colleague Dr. Ijeoma Igwe just happens to be Tyrese’s favorite dentist. Especially since she played it forward during the opening week of the movie Black and Blue she went viral for buying out an entire 300 seat movie theater for the children in the community. Amazing! Dr Heavenly also played it forward by buying out a screen at the Phipps Plaza in Buckhead, GA inviting her cast-mates to also host with her.
Best friend Dr Jackie and her husband were in attendance along with her husband Curtis. Dr. Contessa and her hubby Dr Scott Metcalfe and of course Dr. Damon Kimes was present. Special guestKenny Kenglomerate(Black Designer), Terry Shropshire (Editor Rolling Out), and a host of Dr. Heavenly’s high profile Dr friends all came out to support.
Prior to Dr. Heavenly’s screening Tyrese and Director Deon Taylor along with actress/co-star Naomi Harris hosted a screening in midtown at the world famous Black owned theater on Ponce De Leon with a host of tv camera crews and a grand red carpet as Tyrese has plenty to say urging everyone to go out and support this film.
If you haven’t seen Black and Blue please go while it is still in theaters. Purchase a group of tickets and send your teenagers. There are a lot of teachable moments in this film. You will not fall asleep or be disappointed. If you loved Training Day you will love this film. Shout out to Tyrese and Naomi who were definitely the dynamic duo! No spoiler alerts in this blog.
