Evangeline McCray Ascap Published Songwriter Interviews with Jonell
Who is Evangeline McCray?
Evangeline McCray, an aspiring songwriter, has been writing music since the tender age of 17. Songwriting has always been a passion of hers. However, after reaching the age of 40, she decided to take her craft seriously and join the publishing company ASCAP to officialize her work.
Let me give you a little history on Evangeline McCray.
Evangeline McCray, born in Opelika, Alabama, is a dope jazz songwriter who’s got a totally unique style. When she writes songs, she always adds a catchy melody to go along with the lyrics. Her music hits you right in the feels and makes you feel all sorts of emotions. She’s got three siblings, so music has always been a big part of her family. When she was a kid, her dad used to take them to see all kinds of different artists, like the legendary James Brown. Those experiences really inspired her to start writing her own music.
Evangeline has been fortunate enough to work with some amazing talents along the way. She had the incredible Linda Boston singing and co-arranging the female version of her song “Golden Eyes,” while William Green joined forces for the male version. These collaborations, along with the help of Willie Hill, Samuel Haygood, Leonard Julien III, Toni Byrd, Regina Troupe, Levelle, the late “Blues Doctor,” Linda Boston (yes, she’s that awesome!), and Warren Marvin Lankford, have made her songwriting dreams come true.
When you listen to Evangeline’s music, it’s like taking a trip down memory lane. Her melodies will transport you to a time and place that feels oh-so-familiar. So, kick back, relax, and let her melodious tunes work their magic on you. Enjoy the ride! Rock on!
