Molly Ringwald on Growing Up with Fame | Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky

This week on Reclaiming, we sit down with the incomparable Molly Ringwald, the actress who defined a generation and shaped ’80s pop culture forever (Pretty In Pink, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club).

In this intimate conversation, Molly pulls back the curtain on her meteoric rise to fame, sharing candid revelations about navigating Hollywood as a teenage icon. She offers a fascinating glimpse into her creative partnership with legendary director John Hughes, and reveals the untold story of how her own headshot unexpectedly inspired the classic “Pretty in Pink.” Plus, Molly reflects on her years in Paris, where she rediscovered herself away from the American spotlight.

Ringwald shared that Hughes wrote Sixteen Candles inspired solely by her headshot, which he had pinned above his computer. She also recounted how an impromptu dance with co-star Matt Freeman at Kingston Mines led Hughes to conceptualize her character in Pretty in Pink.

Reflecting on her early fame, Ringwald acknowledged that while she has always been in the public eye, the intense spotlight during her teenage years felt overwhelming and intimidating. She continues to process the complexities of her early career and her collaboration with Hughes, recognizing both the opportunities and challenges it presented.

Scrapp Deleon to Attend Third Annual Creation of Fashion – June 1st

Phaedra Parks is scheduled to be the host and mistress of ceremony at the 3rd Annual Creation of Fashion. Jamila T. Davis will also be a special guest as well as radio host Michael Moultrie. Letitia Scott-Jackson Co-Founder of Keeping Families Connected is elated about the weekend of events scheduled. She and her husband self fund this entire event to raise money for their non-profit organization “Keeping Family Connected.” Purchase tickets here.

This non profit provides luxury uber rides for families of incarcerated that have no transportation to visit their loved ones. Keeping Family Connected was created after the release of once (wrongfully accused) incarcerated Letitia Scott-Jackson; when she had no access to her family especially her kids because no one was able to provide them transportation to see her. This was an awful feeling she never wished anyone else to experience. Once released she and her husband decided to devote their lives to families of the incarcerated to make processing this new temporary way of life a little less painful for those grieving. Keeping Families Connected is definitely an organization that walks the walk and is not just about lip service.Screen Shot 2019-05-28 at 5.31.30 PMPlease join the above mentioned celebrity talent. Scrapp Deleon from Love & Hip Hop Atlanta (and newly released from Federal Prison in Georgia) will actually be a guest speaker at this event to drop gems of knowledge and comforting words of wisdom to the families that may help ease the pain of their situation. Advocate Jamila T Davis who also recently served several years in Federal Prison will also be a guest speaker at the Third Annual Creation of Fashion Show.
