Will Packer and Malcolm D. Lee offer inspiration for blacks in film at 4th Annual Influencers Brunch
Will Packer and Malcolm D. Lee offer inspiration for blacks in film at 4th annual Influencers Brunch
According to the Newsletter of Enchanted PR
(Washington, DC) — The 4th annual Influencers Brunch was an undeniable highlight of the Congressional Black Caucus weekend in Washington, DC. Curated by Terk Entertainment Group partners Tarek “Terk” Stevens and Ronald “Tricky” Montgomery, the program opened with breakout Pop/R&B artist Eli serenading the crowd, then transitioned to an intimate conversation with Hollywood heavyweights Will Packer and Malcolm D. Lee, moderated by Heart & Soul Channel’s personality Cayman Kelly on Sirrius XM radio.
Packer and Lee were raw and candid, sharing insider knowledge about the movie industry while promoting their new film Night School. “We appreciate your support, because every ticket counts when you are up against others,” Packer explained. Lee echoed Packers sentiment and encouraged others to follow their passion especially if it led them to pursue the film industry. Lee suggested hopefuls be prepared to start at the bottom and do the work. “I started at the bottom. I got coffee, bagels, etc. I even messed up sometimes and got yelled at, but it’s ok,” he said. “Sometimes we want the success but aren’t willing to start at the bottom, but in many cases that’s the only way in.”
What began as a casual breakfast meeting between Anthony Anderson, Tarek “Terk” Stevens and Chris Spencer during The BET Honors has now become an exclusive gathering where Capitol Hill, Hollywood and Wall Street converge to celebrate igniters of the cultural power shift, recognize the impact of dynamic partnerships and empower the next generation of social change agents. “It’s always a beautiful room,” says Ronald “Tricky” Montgomery, “you look around and see so many different examples of black excellence from entertainment, to politicians to corporate brand managers, it’s black people supporting, collaborating and celebrating each other.”
Tarek “Terk” Stevens believes the brunch symbolizes the importance of building and sustaining relationships. “Your influence extends beyond your own platform and includes your relationships. The Influencers Brunch represents fertile ground for collaborative innovation that inspires global action,” he says. The relationships in this room go back for decades and others are just beginning, but this event represents how invaluable those connections are even beyond business.”
In addition to hearing insightful commentary from Packer and Lee, guests dined on a gourmet style brunch, enjoyed the beautiful rooftop view overlooking the Capitol and Union Station and received exclusive gift bags filled with Shea Moisture products.
Celebrity and notable guests included; author/speaker Michael Eric Dyson, former Essence editor-in-chief Susan L. Taylor, actor Lamman Rucker, comedian/radio morning show host Joe Clair, pop culture expert Jawn Murray, model/actress/morning radio host Claudia Jordan, ‘Love In The City’ star and International Motivational speaker Bershan Shaw, Josh J1 Raiford Program Director of 93.9 WKYS Radio One, Maryland Delegate Jay Walker and Angie M. Gates who serves as the Director of the DC Office of Cable Television, Film, Music and Entertainment.
The 4th annual Influencers Brunch was sponsored by Shea Moisture, Barclays, Night School (Universal Pictures), CVS Health, Howard Stirk Holdings, Blackmaled Productions, Will Packer Media, Sunshine Matter, LLC, Tito’s Vodka, Jack Daniel’s and 202Creates as part of Mayor Muriel Bowser’s month long initiatirve and the Office of Cable, Television, Film, Music and Entertainment.

BBK Phat Drops “Here We Go” Remix f’ the Baddest Chick TRINA

The city you grew up in, race, and life’s experiences can all shape a person’s talent. This is especially true of Rap Artist/Actor BBK Phat. Born and Raised on the Westbank of New Orleans, BBK Phat made a conscious decision to relocate his family to the city of Houston. With the desire to be a rap artist since the age of 13 his ambition, talent and resources have allowed BBK Phat the opportunity to open for “Lil Wayne,Future, Sean Kingston, Erika Badu, Mack Maine, Mysitkal, Tyga, Bun B, Yo gotti, lil Boosie, Juvenile, Young Jeezy, 2 chain, Rkelly, Money Bag Yo. Finally he got a chance to scratch Miami’s baddest chick rap artist TRINA off his bucket list of artist to perform with as they recently completed the ‘Slow Grind and Wind’ Remix of “Here We Go”.
The Produer’s Channel caught up with the Slow Wine & Grind artist to inquire how his drive and determination has kept his fans motivated to see and hear more from him. The better question was what did it take to snag Miami Love & Hip Hop cast member & rapper TRINAfor his latest remix? Check out the interview:
Who wrote and produced your Remix “Here We Go” and what was the concept behind it?
I wrote it myself and Kirk Thuglas was the producer. I was going through a lot in my life at the time. The popular music producer Kirk said he had a song for me to write to to give me a different flavor and when I first heard the song I loved it. It took me a few days to write something to get it right but when I finally heard it played back to me I literally fell to my knees. It sounded better than I imagined it would.
What made you want to put Trina on the remix?
It actually was a collaborative effort between myself and my label AMS Music Entertainment. We wanted the song to be able to be placed in the hip hop category and we felt that TRINA would be the best artist to give it that hip hop appeal.
You mentioned shooting the video took 6 days; did you and Trina shoot together or separately?
Awwww man, we actually shot one full day together. It was an Epic experience. Trina is a very real individual, humble and a true professional. We got a chance to discuss a lot of different things & she absolutely loved the song. From the moment she pulled up to the house with the pool where we shot the video it was just all love. First words out of her mouth were “about time.” Her vibes were genuine. Everything was organic and we just had a good time.
What advise would you give other artist trying to establish their brand?
Get your paperwork in order.
What makes your lable AMS South Music Entertainment different that others?
AMS is different from other labels because they are not looking for anything from the artist. They are in a financial situation where their business is already moving forward. Their business is in order, everything is in line; they are organized and trustworthy. I don’t feel like either party is using each other for self gain. They have the connections and the resources to help their artist achieve their goals. It’s more than business because the level of respect we have for each other is actual genuine. On both ends we want to see each other grow bigger. It’s a mutual respect. I’ve been dealing with the CEOAlvin Maysfor about two years and I know he is genuinely concerned about my career reaching the highest level and I wish the same for the label as well.
When did you change your stage name from Annunaki Phat (and what does that name mean)?
My best friend got killed and that just blew my world. When I got over it the best I could it’s when I changed my name to BBK Phat. It’s not really a meaning. They were basically angels God sent down to teach.
Will Packer and Kevin Hart host Night School Screening in Atlanta

Will Packer and Kevin Hart stay consistent when it comes to putting the “funny” in their films! Will Packer Productions also stays consistent when it comes to showing love to the city of Atlanta and holding premiere parties & screenings in the #1 city for social media. Packer & Hart engage with their invited media by delivering the best interviews and not rushing through the red carpets.

A member from Hart’s security team was overheard saying “we can rush anyone up besides Mr. Hart. He wants to talk to the press and he loves his media people.” Kevin Hart has been famous for taking selfies with the crowd and always being engaging, comical and just a very down to earth actor and comedian. With all of Hart’s success it could be very easy for Hart to have the big ego and shun the fans but that has never been the case and we love Kevin Hart for that.

Packer and Hart brought out the VIP’s, Reality Television Stars and Tastemakers of Atlanta. Spotted on the red carpet was Isaac Hayes III, Dr Heavenly Kimes, daughter Alana, Toya Bush-Harris & Eugene Harris (Bravo TV’s Married to Medicine), Ms. Trina Braxton, Ms. Quad Webb (TV One’s Sister Circle) accompanied by her sisters Selena Johnson and Rashawn Ali, Atlanta Hawks Taurean Prince, Keshia Knight Pulliam, the beautiful RHOA Sheree Whitfield and a host of others.

Night School is a hilarious comedy starring Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish and Rob Riggle. The storyline is based on a group of troublemakers forced to attend night school in order to pass the final exam to obtain their GED. The director Malcolm D. Lee, and writers Kevin Hart, Harry Ratchford, Joey Wells, Matthew Kellard, Nicholas Stoller, and John Hamburg are responsible for our giggles. You will also see a lot of cameo appearances by some of our favorite television personalites. We can’t give away any more of what’s in store so you will have to purchase your tickets to see this box office hit movie that will release September 27th.
Akbar V, Breezy, Milan Christopher and the Norwood Family hit PRIDE festival at Piedmont Park
The Piedmont Park festival is the hallmark event of Atlanta’s Black Gay Pride. The Pure Heat Community Festival highlights “market and food vendors, live performances, entertainment, educational forums, prizes and giveaways, all of which brings together the spirit of community, pride, and vision,” according to Atlanta Voice writer Jason Rhode. Everyone loves the live entertainment.
This year’s festival included special award presentations to singer/actor and entrepreneur Ray J Norwood (Humanitarian Award), V103 Atlanta host, Miss Sophia (Legacy Award), singer/actress Demetria McKinney (Humanitarian Award) and rapper/TV Personality, Milan Christopher (IMPACT Award). The free cultural event is equipped with market and food vendors, live celebrity and local performers, entertainment, educational forums, prizes & giveaways – all designed to bring together the spirit of community, pride, and vision. In partnership with The Vision Community Foundation, a portion of proceeds from the weekend’s festivities are used to benefit homeless LGBT youth and those infected/affected with HIV/AIDS.
Hosted by Bishop Oliver Clyde Allen III, Rashad Burgess and Melissa “DJ M” Scott, the Pure Heat Community Festival is a front seat into a spectacular gathering of minority LGBTQ people and their allies in the heart of Atlanta. The 2018 festival featured live performances by Bre-Z (“Empire”), Akbar V, D Woods and Shanell, Estelita, Trent Crews and more. 2017 festival honoree actress Amiyah Scott returned to encourage fans to tune-into “Star” season 3 on Fox. Additional notable VIP’s in attendance included Princess Love Norwood, Melody Love Norwood, Sonja Norwood, Dr. Heavenly, Shekinah Anderson, Kore Stacks, Trinity Kardashian-Bonet and more.

“Atlanta Black Gay Pride is a dynamic opportunity to showcase the diversity and uniqueness of the LGBT community. People from all over come to this city to celebrate themselves and others and its truly beautiful. I’ve witnessed the growth and development of our community each year and 2018 promises to be even greater than previous years,” says Traxx Girls Inc. founder, Melissa Scott.

Additionally, the festival offers an opportunity to bring awareness to a community impacted by HIV/AIDS, and advocates campaigning for human rights, education, health & wellness, and homelessness, which greatly impacts the LGBTQ community at large.
